“The Monkey’s Paw is a scary classic short story by W.W.Jacobs about a family who finds a magic talisman that grants three wishes that also carry with them a lot of tragedy.”

About this story:

The White family had not much money, but they were a very happy little family.

One day, Tom Morris came to this family and visited them. Tom was a soldier in India for twenty-one years. Before he went to India, he and Mr. White were good friends. He told the family a lot of strange and wonderful things in India. Then, he took out a Monkey’s Paw from his pocket and told them that the Monkey’s Paw can do strange and wonderful things. The paw was magic because it can give three wishes to three people, meanwhile these three wishes didn’t bring happiness. The White family was all interesting. So Mr. White took it from Tom. Tom Morris emphasized that the Monkey’s Paw would bring unhappiness, but old Mr. White did not listen and he did not think.

After Tom Morris leaved, the next day, Mr. White made a wish for thirty thousand pounds! But it was nothing happened immediately and there was not any money. They told about the paw and money again and again until next day.

Later in the day, a stranger came and told the couple their son, Herbert, was killed by machinery in an accident at his company. The old couple was very sad and they didn’t believe it. In order to show sympathy, the stranger gave the couple thirty thousand pounds.

Three days later, the old two people said goodbye to their dead son in a big, new cemetery. The days went by very slowly; Mrs. White missed her son everyday.

One night, Mrs White thought a idea suddenly. She wanted to make a wish for her son to come back. She found out the Monkey’s paw and made this wish. She stayed for a long time but nothing happened.

Late at that night, they didn’t sleep, they waited and listened. Suddenly, they heard a noise at the front door. Mrs. White thought her son was coming and going to open the door for him. Mr. White tried to stopped her but it had no effect. He thought the paw again. When Mrs. White began to open the door, Mr. White made his third wish. Then, it was quiet out of the door and there was nobody there.
